Video Experiences

I am an art director, experience designer, and project manager for immersive, ambient, spatial, and short form experiences that explore the boundaries of fact and fiction with the goal to evoke awe and mystery alongside understanding. I experiment with how emerging technologies offer new perspectives and audiences for stories and communication. I blend 3D and 2D digital and analog methods (C4D, Unreal, Unity, After Effects, photography, cartography, painting, stop-motion animation) to achieve retro-futuristic and organic speculative designs across short videos, mixed reality, and immersive (VR/AR headset or projected). I also investigate relationships between well-being, technology, and spatial psychology.

My work has shown in museums, galleries, building lobbies and exteriors, immersive headsets, festivals, apps, broadcast, and on-line. My short films have been funded by Sloan and Lionsgate, won a Student Academy Award Gold Medal and Nomination, HBO Films Student Competition Award, Cannes Lion Finalist, Best Animated Short festival awards and screened internationally. My game, Miralab, won Best Educational Game from the Serious Game Play Awards. I’ve art directed and animated video and VR experiences that have screened at Sundance New Frontiers, LACMA, British Museum, Kennedy Center, among others.

I am an Assistant Professor of Emerging Media in the Media Arts & Culture Department at Occidental College in Los Angeles. I completed my MFA in Animation and PhD in Media Arts + Practice from USC with an emphasis on evocative visualization and worldbuilding for poetic science communication. I’ve developed and taught courses in Speculative Design, 2D and 3D Motion Design, Experimental Animation, Design for Interactivity, Visualization, World-building, and Design, and given lectures on poetic science communication and evocative visualization at science and arts conferences, and tech companies. I approach both teaching and creative projects as designed experiences with instructional goals that prioritize the emotional, sensory, and spirited alongside the intellectual.
